We are pretty much a traditional Reading Group and choose our own books to read, either paper, electronic or audio. We then meet up once a month to share a brief synopsis, together with thoughts and recommendations. Members bring along 2 or 3 titles to discuss and then books are made available to swap, so it's a great way to discover new authors and characters.
Whilst centred on literary Crime Fiction, we also discuss TV and Film Adaptations . We meet at Lucy's home and there are always refreshments available with a nominal cost of £1 .
We almost had a full house of members for our July meeting, which led to many books and their authors being discussed and a fairly lively meeting.
If you love reading Crime Fiction, or if you would like to come along for a taster session, .why not join us? You can contact Lucy via the Link above,
Hopefully numbers will increase as we move into the winter months, and as we snuggle up to keep warm with something to do what better way than with a good book ? We always have a selection of the best authors available from second hand sales and members to give a good account of the books they bring in.
We had another lively meeting at Lucy's house in August. Many books were brought in by members to swop and discuss. Two complete sets of books were also discussed and swopped that were written by well-known authors - S.J.Parris and Mark Sennen. We meet on the 4th Thursday of the month from 2 to 4pm at Lucy’s house. Further details from Lucy Thomas via the Group Leader link above
On Dec 14th, Game On, Crime Fiction, and Scrabble Groups, all combined for an Upstairs, Downstairs Xmas Party. Members arrived around 11.30am bearing plates ofdelicious food and were served Mulled Apple Juice bought from Cotehele House (non-alcoholic at themembers’ request). The food and drinks were all arranged on the upper floor of Lucy's house.
Around 2pm, when members declared they could eat and drink no more they made their way to the ground floor for an afternoon of fun. We started with a Xmas pass the parcel, complete with Xmas Carol and Nursery rhyme forfeits, to make sure everyone was in a Xmas mood. Then Phil treated us to a 20 questions Xmas themed Quiz. He followed this with an excellent reading from a book from the Crime Reading Group. Murder of Course!!
Other games followed including ‘guess the number of items in 4 jars, a memory test and who could get the most ping pong balls into a large pot. Winners were invited to take their prizes from a lucky dip box. The afternoon was broken into two parts. At 3pm a toast was proposed for a Happy Xmas and this was served with a Xmas Cake from Cyndy and mince pies from Phil.
Lucy was presented with a generous Tesco's voucher from all the members. This surprised her but, lost or words, she thanked them for their generosity and for all their help to make the party a success.
Members made their way home around 5pm as it was beginning to get dark
