Our Nostalgia group is here to help us bring back memories of our days of yesteryear. We will be remembering various subjects such as schooldays, holidays, friends, first car, nights out, etc, etc. It's surprising what memories are triggered by a casual mention, a newspaper which comes to lighht when spring cleaning old bedroom furniture, an old film, newsreel clip, or "our" song". The idea is to bring up a different subject each month. Unsurprisingly, the first memory to remember, to reminisce, and perhaps chuckle about, was “schooldays”.
We meet on the third Monday afternoon of the month , 2pm - 4pm, in the Council Chamber of the Town Hall. To learn more, why not mail Jo Earl via the link above., or just pop in and recall some of your childhood, teenage or even "Boom" years memories with our own Nostalgia group.

New Year, and surprisingly enough for our January meeting we numbered thirteen. We started off talking about our memories of "parties and going out," but we seemed to run out of things to talk about half way through! So we went on to talk about our "first cars and taking our driving test'' and ended up revisiting the sports we had played at school.
For our February get together seven of us enjoyed an afternoon of watching old adverts and programmes about the foods we used to enjoy as children. Also how and why many of the sweets and puddings we enjoyed have disappeared or are just not the same any more. This is presumably due to the dangerous amounts of chemicals which were used to "enhance", or ad flavour or increased shelf life our foods and whic are now are now banned. And then there's "shrinkflation", which inevitably leads to less food for more money.
Suggestions for future topics more than welcome. Suggestions on a postcard !!, or mail Jo as above.
We have been making use of the screen in the Council Chamber and in March we had a quiz where we had to identify TV programs from their intros. It was very enjoyable and Jo will be searching for more TV nostalgia over the coming months. Just a reminder that we meet in the Council Chamber on the afternoon of the third Monday of the month 2 - 4pm. Only £1.50 including hot drinks and biscuits.
At our April meeting we again used the Council Chamber screen and watched episodes of "Captain Pugwash", "Noggin the Nog" and "The Woodentops". They don't make 'em like that anymore! Once we'd calmed down and got over the excitement we tried some TV themed quizzes. See what you're missing out on at "Nostalgia." Even more eccitement next mont as Jo is away and Phil will be revealing his moments of Nostalgia, Clift version.
As we hinted last month our merry month of May Nostalgia Group remembrance was rocked by Phil who focused on th music of our years. Singers, groups, songs, memories etc. Why particular songs/ groups are significant. Where were we when? Why this Song, or that Group? We also watched a few videos: T Rex, Petula Clark and several others.
The meeting was given "foive", voted a "smash hit" and went to the "Top Of The Pops". It was suggested that there should be a re-run talong the same lines next monthnext month but that we include those memories of ilm music as well. Come and join us and have an enjoyable afternoon wallowing in heaps of Nostalgia when we meet again in June.
