Scrabble and Word Games Group is a new Group to Callington u3a. It has grown out of our Lucy Thomas Game On Group, where playing all their other Board Games didn't seem to leave enough time for Scrabble enthusiasts to sort out all their Triple Word scores from their Double Letter scores. We'll not just be playing Scrabble of course, but any other Word Games as our members might request.
If this sounds like a good way of spending yet another afternoon in pursuit of Learn, Laugh and Live, contact Lucy Thomas via the Link above.
On Dec 14th, Game On, Crime Fiction, and Scrabble Groups, all combined for an Upstairs, Downstairs Xmas Party. Members arrived around 11.30am bearing plates ofdelicious food and were served Mulled Apple Juice bought from Cotehele House (non-alcoholic at themembers’ request). The food and drinks were all arranged on the upper floor of Lucy's house. Around 2pm, when members declared they could eat and drink no more they made their way to the ground floor for an afternoon of fun. We started with a Xmas pass the parcel, complete with Xmas Caroland Nursery rhyme forfeits, to make sure everyone was in a Xmas mood. Then Phil treated us to a 20 questions Xmas themed Quiz. He followed this with an excellent reading from a book from the Crime Reading Group. Murder of Course!!
Other games followed including ‘guess the number of items in 4 jars', a memory test and who could get the most ping pong balls into a large pot. Winners were invited to take their prizes from a lucky dip box. The afternoon was broken into two parts. At 3pm a toast was proposed for a Happy Xmas and this was served with a Xmas Cake from Cyndy and mince pies from Phil.
Lucy was presented with a generous Tesco's voucher from all the members. This surprised her but, lost for words, she thanked them for their generosity and for all their help to make the party a success.
Members made their way home around 5pm as it was beginning to get dark
Numbers are rising for the Scrabble group which means we are in need of another board. Two members have kindly promised the loan of their boards until we can get another turn-table board However, thanks to the diligent eagle eyes of Sue who spotted another u3a Scrabble Board hidden in a cupboard in the Town Hall, we now have another top-quality Scrabble Board. This means that we now have three boards which will cater for up to twelve members. In the light of this, Lucy will be delighted to welcome two more members to the Group. As always, want to come along? Contact Lucy via the Link above.
